CAUSEWAY CROSSING, 50K

This is my report about this race: lost worlds racing, causeway crossing.

For me, all began on October: my wife gave me the most amazing present I’d ever received till that moment:  I will enjoy a trail race in Ireland! I had never heard about this race but it seemed amazing, didn’t it?
The race for my wife started a few months before, trying to find a present for my 40th anniversary. She really looked for it very hard, even she thought about NY marathon! But inscriptions were closed. Lucky guy! As you will know, this marathon was cancelled because of  hurricane Sandy.

Finally she choose this one, what a shoot!!!!
Although I wore number 10 on the race, I appear with de 42 on the results!

On October 2012 I just run a two trail marathons: Half trail Muntanyes Costa Daurada and Cinc cims cinc horitzons, and training to face the third: la Marató del Montseny, but never 50k, so this had to be my new challenge. Despite some problems on my triceps surae, we arrived to Ireland very excited, so excited that, when the race started I run in a pace that I didn’t planed, too quick to keep it the entire race, but I just couldn’t reduce it!...till I get the 15k, there the energies went down and I assumed that I had been running over my real possibilities: I slowed down and fought towards my body that was telling me to stop. This fight took me to the 25k: Dunluce castle. There I waited for the 25k start. I ate some pie and started again a new race: 25k back to Ballintoy! It was hard, but not so hard as it was to get to Dunluce castle, so I took it easy, tried to keep a comfortable pace and let de km pass.
The Dunluce Castle: here started the second part of the race, back to Ballintoy

The last kms were psychologically hard, more than physically: tired, with some logical disconfort on hips and knees, but always looking at my watch!  I needed to know the distance to the finish line every few minutes, calculating how much time I would take if I kept running on that pace… That was the hardest part.

White park bay: we staied there for a while before the race, looking for butterflies and fossils. During the race, my family and friends were there waiting for me. I was looking for som energies to finish the race

The best part: my family and my friends that supported me during the race but also during my training days. Thank you all: Imma, Jan, Bel, Pablo, Silvia, Marina and Violeta!!! We shared one of the best holydays of our lives!

Before the race, excited and impatient

Just warming up, at the firsts meters, fresh and motivated!

Finish line, plenty happy to finish the giants cuaseway racing

And the views: amazing place, amazing country, kind people. If you don’t have seen it, you must!
